Dr Gill Haddow is Senior Research Fellow in Science, Technology and Innovation Studies at the University of Edinburgh and Deputy Director of the Mason Institute. She has recently been successful in securing a University Award from the Wellcome Trust. Her background is in sociology of health and illness and she has an interest in emerging scientific and medical technologies conceptually brought together through theoretical interests in embodiment, identity and relationships. She completed her PhD (‘Organ Transplantation and Donation The Paradox of Gifting and Dis/Embodiment’) in the Sociology department at the University of Edinburgh in 2001. Areas of research in the last ten years have been in animal-human transplantation; genetic databases; implantable smart technologies; genetics and the family; organ transplantation and donation and telemedicine.
