Leslie Stevens is the ESRC Research Fellow to Scotland’s Administrative Data Research Centre (ADRC) at the University of Edinburgh. As Research Fellow, Leslie will work under the direction of Prof. Graeme Laurie on the provision of legal advice to ADRC Scotland and generating original research in the area of data protection and research governance of social sciences and humanities research which uses innovative data linkages. Leslie is also undertaking her PhD in Edinburgh’s School of Law on “Evaluating a contextual approach to research governance in the UK”. Her research will engage with and benefit the interdisciplinary working between the law and other disciplines by seeking to enhance the legal and ethical compliance of researchers in a wide range of fields, from medicine and the life sciences, to the social sciences. In 2013, she was the first recipient of the new Maclagan Prize Scholarship for PhD candidates. The Scholarship is being offered by the J Kenyon Mason Institute for Medicine, Life Sciences and Law. She was asked in 2013 to be the Mason Institute’s PhD Convenor and sit on the Executive Committee.
